Thank you for visiting.

Together with our sister sites we are the largest and most popular animal, hunting and archery information sites on the Internet. We are also the most popular after Cabela's. Finally, we get more page views because we have so much more to see.

We started in 1996 as an all-volunteer public service to hunting.

All our information and pictures are free. You may not see a lot of pretty pictures (except in our animal picture section) but our sites will load quickly and not waste your valuable time. Please scroll down to learn more.

    Avoiding Bears

Bears, even Grizzlies will not normally attack humans. However, they are fierce in defending their young, and their food. They will also attack if surprised or if they feel threatened. This means that hikers should make noise and announce themselves.

Also, unless you are well armed, do not hunt in grizzly country making elk noises. Thew will attack for food if approached too closely. .

When you make cam, be sure to keep it clean of food and food scents. Grizzlies are voracious eaters because they must accumulate enough fat to take them through their winter hibernation. Never cook inside your tent even if it raining. Cook at least 100 yards from your campsite and do NOT hang meat near your campsite. Also, cook foods that don't give off strong odors and do not wear or sleep in clothes that you have been cooking in.

    Meetings

Bears are like humans. They have different personalities. Some will attack when meeting humans, some will flee. However, the general rule is, DO NOT flee in terror. This almost always results in a chase and an attack. Also, do not shout or wave your arms or do anything threatening. Talk softly and if you have a pepper spray, use it now. Also make yourself look "BIG" because BIG is bear body language to "leave me alone".

If the bear attacks, play dead by curling up into a ball. If you are still alive and if the bear is still in the area, keep playing dead. When the bear leaves, get out of the area and treat your injuries.

Sudden, silent bear attacks will occur if they are hungry and sees you as dinner. If this happens, your only choice is to fight with whatever means you have at hand. Hungry bears will attack anyplace, in the wild, in your tent or even in your cabin. You must return the attack with any weapon you can find.

With the bear population exploding in many areas, bear attacks are an increasingly large danger.
